Widely sold and advertised as a prohormone in the mid-2000s, Superdrol is in fact a steroid (Methasterone) – and a fairly powerful one at that. Users routinely gain in excess of a stone of quality muscle mass during a short 4-6 week Superdrol cycle.
To this day many people referred to and think of Superdrol as a prohormone. Superdrol is actually the anabolic steroid Methasterone (also known as methyldrostanolone), first created in the late 1950s. It was not made commercially available at the time, hence its initial obscurity unlike many of the popular steroids we all know today, such as Dianabol and Masteron. Well, that’s until it was surprisingly brought to market as a legal supplement many decades later.
The Superdrol name was cleverly coined to present the designer steroid to the bodybuilding community as a “super” version of “Anadrol” when it hit the shelves as a legal supplement. And while Superdrol can’t probably compete with Anadrol when it comes to overall mass gains, it is a highly potent steroid and highly effective for those looking for dry gains and big increases to their strength levels.
Structurally, Superdrol is simply a methylated version of the anabolic hormone Drostanolone (Masteron) which makes it possible to take the steroid orally as well as boosting its anabolic traits. It’s therefore no surprise that Superdrol shares many of the characteristics of Masteron.
With an anabolic rating of 400 and androgenic rating of 20, Superdrol is excellent at promoting anabolism and nitrogen retention while not posing too great a risk to those worried about androgenic side effects.
The hormone cannot convert to oestrogen so water retention isn’t experienced when cycling Superdrol and users can instead expect dry quality gains in muscle tissue. Anecdotally, users can typically gain in excess of a stone of quality mass from a 4-6 week Superdrol cycle, making it one of the more potent oral steroids available and especially popular for those prone to oestrogenic side effects.
The traits of this anabolic make it fairly versatile in its application. It works very well as a bulking steroid given its ability to pack on a lot of tissue is a short amount of time. As such, it would be suitable as a standalone cycle or stacked with other anabolic steroids (such as testosterone which would make an ideal base) and used as a “front loader” for the initial 4-6 weeks. Equally, Superdrol could be used during times of cutting body fat. The body transforming ability of Superdrol will be evident as it helps preserve lean mass and promotes a dry defined appearance.
Anyone who is new to steroids/prohormones and is looking for a milder steroid, that falls into the same over-the-counter grey area that Superdrol and its current clones do, may find a Halodrol cycle an effective alternative.
Superdrol provides a lot of bang for its buck. 20-30mg per day for 4-6 weeks will provide excellent results.
As with all anabolics, it would be wise to start off with the lower dose of 20mg per day for those new to Superdrol, allowing the user to gauge the reaction to the hormone. Superdrol’s short half-life of 6-8 hours means the steroid will be quickly out of the system if side effects become undesirable for a first time user or unforeseen circumstances means the cycle must be cut short.
The short half-life of Superdrol also means fairly frequent dosing is required to keep concentrations of the steroid stable within the body. Splitting the dosage into two or three servings taken at regular intervals during the day would be a good choice.
Anyone prone to oestrogen related side effects will find Superdrol a great choice with the steroid showing no oestrogenic activity at all. Gynecomastia (breast tissue formation) and water bloat are no concern from the hormone’s use and gains in weight should be from lean increases in muscle tissue assuming diet and training are up to scratch.
Superdrol is fairly mild when it comes to androgenic activity. This should make it a fairly safe choice for many, but related side effects cannot be ruled out. Acne and oily skin can be experienced, as can increases in aggression and accelerated male pattern baldness for those predisposed to the condition.
To make Superdrol suitable for oral ingestion the steroid has a methyl group added at the 17th carbon position. You may therefore see Superdrol and many other orally ingested steroids referred to as C17-alpha alkylated (or ‘C17-aa’ for short). While this alteration to the structure makes taking the steroid in tablet form possible, it also makes it hepatotoxic. In other words, Superdrol can cause stress and damage to the liver. This is why the limited dosage and cycle duration is recommended with Superdrol and why it would also be wise to supplement with the likes of Milk Thistle, Liv-52 and ALA as these will help protect the liver.
Avoiding alcohol and other C17-aa steroids or medications is a must when using Superdrol.
Shut-down of the body’s natural testosterone production will occur from Superdrol use. It is paramount users understand that Superdrol, whilst initially marketed as a legal supplement, is a potent steroid as indicated by its excellent results but also its possible adverse side effects. As with any steroid cycle, a Post Cycle Therapy (PCT) is a requirement once the cycle is ceased. This will ensure the body’s natural hormone balance is restored after the cycle, helping the user maintain their gains and minimising any lasting undesirable effects. PCT would begin 6-8 hours after the last dose and continue for 3 weeks. See the PCT guide for more information.
