How to Static Holds

About the Static Holds

For the development of grip strength, nothing comes much more basic, and effective, than static holds. As the name suggests, the athlete grips hold of a static weight and holds it for as long as possible. The athlete can progress by increasing the resistance and/or the time the load is held.

This exercise is perfect for Strongman and strength athletes for grip development. Its use in bodybuilding is negligible and not advised.

How to perform


  1. Find a set of suitable dumbbells
  2. Grasp the dumbbells in each hand and stand erect


  1. Hold for the desired amount of time
