Vastus lateralis of the quadriceps

Comments

Being one of the four muscles which collectively compose the quadriceps, the vastus lateralis is found to the outer region of the thigh. Bodybuilders commonly desire well developed vastus lateralis muscles due to the muscle being responsible for the “sweep” of the quadriceps, conveying greater leg width.

The muscle is recruited with exercises which incorporate the extension of the knee, such as squats. Gym-goers can also choose to isolate the quadriceps with the leg extension machine, which is also a great choice for those with injuries or back issues making the squat not possible.
