Multipower Protein + Energy Bar review
The following is a review for the Multipower “Protein + Energy Bar” which is a fitness and bodybuilding supplement bar, part of the Multipower Muscle range. Ingredients and nutritional values
The following ingredients for the Multipower Protein + Energy Bar were taken from the Multipower web site; Milk Protein (29%), Glucose Syrup, Fructose Syrup, Plain Chocolate (14%) (Cocoa Mass, Sugar, Cocoa Butter, Emulsifier: Soya Lecithins, Flavouring), Vegetable Fat, Candied Peel (orange Peel, Glucose, Sugar, Isoglucose), Tri-calcium Phosphate, (as Phosphate), Flavouring, Iron (III) Di-phosphate, Vitamin C (as Ascorbic Acid), Niacin (as Nicotinamide),Vitamin B2 (as Riboflavin), Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin A (as Retinyl Acetate Prep.), Folic Acid (as Folic Acid), Sodium Iodide, Vitamin D (as Cholecalciferol), Vitamin B12 (as Cobalamin Prep.)
The benefits of the Protein + Energy Bar are said to be (taken from the Multipower web site):
• “11g of quality protein and vitamins” per bar
• “A good source of high quality protein”
• An aid to “supporting the recovery process” therefore worthwhile after exercise, or as a snack during the day.
With 11g of protein per bar, the Protein + Energy bar would not really be suitable for a bodybuilder or strength athlete who will usually desire a greater amount of protein per feeding. The bar may be suitable for those focused on weight management, or general gym goers who desire a quick and pleasant snack before the gym or during the afternoon. There are much better (more optimal nutritional composition, and more cost effective) choices for post workout nutrition, so I would not advise this bar as a post workout supplement.
Taste and texture
I sampled the banana flavour, which was pleasant and had a soft texture. Protein bars can sometimes leave an aftertaste and be somewhat chalky in texture, but these were minimal with the Protein + Energy Bar.
