Multipower Flapjack review

Multipower sent FitnessUncovered an assortment of products to review on behalf of our readers, including the Multipower flapjack which comes in an array of flavours. We received the “Chocolate chip” and “Blueberry jam filling” flapjacks to review; other flavours available include yogurt, chocolate cameral, and toffee topping. The following review is independent and honest, yet we still encourage people looking to purchase any particular supplement to search online for other reviews as well as asking on forums to ensure they receive balanced opinion, as any review is often subjective in nature.

Ingredients and nutritional values

Multipower Flapjack

Multipower Flapjack

The following ingredients for the flapjack were taken from the Multipower web site; (Blueberry flavour) Oats, Vegetable Margarine, Golden Syrup, Blueberry Jam, Sugar, Glucose Syrup.

No nutritional values were displayed on the packaging of the flapjack, although I did receive the flapjacks loose, so it may be that the nutritional values are displayed on the box. Even so, given the ingredients, we would expect a high calories and carbohydrate content per bar.

The benefits of the flapjack are said to be (taken from the Multipower web site):
• “No hydrogenated fats”
• “Suitable for vegetarians”

The flapjack consists of carbohydrate rich ingredients, including oats, golden syrup, sugar and glucose syrup. A minimal 45% is oats, according to the Multipower web site.

Let’s be clear, this flapjack is not designed as a healthy snack or a protein rich item for aesthetically focused trainers, instead it is a high energy flapjack which would be suitable before, during and after exercise.

Taste and texture of flapjack

Considering the ingredients, it is not surprising both flavours I tried were extremely tasty! The flapjack has a real home-baked texture and taste, and it is hard to criticise the flapjack from a taste perspective.

The flapjack may be flawless in taste, yet given it purpose as an energy provider and replenisher, I do believe there are much better and cheaper alternatives for pre and post exercise nutrition. Maltodextrin and dextrose powders are cheap and sweet tasting when mixed with water, providing instant energy (mixing whey protein, maltodextrin and dextrose in water creates an instant and palatable pre and post workout drink which is quickly absorbed). This option would be far more cost effective if energy supply and replenishment are what you are looking for.
