Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Q. I have been over weight for a number of years due to a combination of lack of exercise and a poor diet, much of which began when I started my office job. Previously I was a pre-school helper, so I was always active, plus had the time to eat more wholesome foods. I only have time to exercise first thing in the morning, or in the evenings, so I am looking for a weight loss workout I can follow to help control my body weight .Plus, any tips for dietary intake for weight loss would be great. My shoulders do not seem to fail on over head presses, and my arms are left feeling more worked than the shoulders. I have been working out for a few months now and seen good progression, yet my shoulders are lacking somewhat. What would be considered a good shoulder workout, and are there any good general tips for training the shoulders?

Weight training for boxing

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

Q. I go to a boxing club twice per week where we are taught the technical aspects of the sport, as well as performing exercises, and rounds with the heavy bags. I began boxing to gain confidence and also become fitter. We do not do much weight training at the boxing sessions, and the training is mainly focused around cardiovascular exercises, such as jogging, skipping and bag work. Would a weight training routine aid in my boxing training, and if so, what sort of routine could I do at home with dumbbells, a barbell, and a bench?
